Fire Extinguisher Inspection Services Manhattan Bronx Brooklyn
FDNY-Compliant Extinguisher Inspection, Tagging, Recharging and Hydrostatic Testing — Same-Day Across Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn

Fire Extinguisher Inspection in Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn
A portable fire extinguisher is the cheapest piece of life-safety equipment in your building and the first thing an FDNY inspector checks. It is also the one most likely to be out of compliance. A missing tag, a gauge in the red, a Class K unit mounted too far from the fryer, or a six-year internal maintenance that came due two years ago can each turn a routine inspection into a violation.
Master Fire Mechanical inspects extinguishers for restaurants, delis, bodegas, offices, retail stores, schools, houses of worship, nursing homes and residential buildings across all three boroughs. Our technicians carry FDNY Certificates of Fitness and service every unit to NYC Fire Code section FC906 and NFPA 10.
What an Annual Inspection Covers
Each unit is weighed and physically examined. We verify the pressure gauge, seal, pull pin and tamper indicator, check the hose and nozzle for obstruction, and confirm the bracket height and clearance meet code. We also confirm the extinguisher class matches the hazard in that room — Class K within thirty feet of commercial cooking appliances, Class A within a seventy-five foot travel distance in ordinary occupancies, and Class B or clean-agent units where flammable liquids or electronics are present. Passing units are tagged and dated on the spot; failing units are recharged, serviced or replaced before we leave.
The Intervals Owners Forget
Stored-pressure dry chemical extinguishers need internal maintenance at six years. CO2 and wet chemical Class K cylinders need hydrostatic testing every five years, dry chemical shells every twelve. When a unit is due, we pull it, service it in our shop and leave a properly rated loaner so your space is never uncovered.
One Contractor, One Visit
Because we are a full mechanical fire protection contractor and not an extinguisher-only route service, we can inspect your extinguishers on the same visit as your hood suppression system, sprinklers, standpipes or exhaust work — one crew, one set of records you can hand an inspector. Same-day and next-day appointments are available across Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn. Call (646) 772-1244.
Fire Extinguisher Inspection FAQs
How often does a fire extinguisher have to be inspected in NYC?
Every unit needs a quick visual check every thirty days, which staff can perform, plus a full maintenance inspection and tagging every twelve months by a qualified servicing company. The annual service is what FDNY looks for under NYC Fire Code section FC906 and NFPA 10.
Do commercial kitchens need a Class K extinguisher?
Yes. Any kitchen with deep fryers or appliances using vegetable or animal cooking oils needs a Class K wet chemical extinguisher within a thirty-foot travel distance of the appliances. It does not replace the hood suppression system; both are required and both are inspected.
How often does an extinguisher need hydrostatic testing?
CO2 and wet chemical Class K extinguishers require hydrostatic testing every five years. Stored-pressure and cartridge-operated dry chemical extinguishers require it every twelve years, plus internal maintenance at six years.
What happens if my extinguisher fails inspection?
We correct it on site whenever possible. Units needing a recharge, gauge, hose or pin are serviced during the visit. If the shell is due for internal maintenance or hydrostatic testing, we take it to our shop and leave a properly rated loaner so the location stays covered and compliant.
Can you inspect extinguishers and our kitchen suppression system on the same visit?
Yes. Master Fire Mechanical is a full mechanical fire protection contractor, so portable extinguishers, hood and duct suppression, sprinklers, standpipes and exhaust systems can be handled by the same crew on one appointment.
How fast can you get to my building?
Same-day and next-day appointments are available across Manhattan, the Bronx and Brooklyn. If you have an open violation or a re-inspection date, tell us when you call at (646) 772-1244 and we will schedule around it.
