WINTERIZE COMMERCIAL FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEMS NYC Part 2 of 2
In Part 2 of our special blog post on Winterizing Fire Sprinkler Systems we’ll discuss the process itself which is complex. Accordingly it is mandated by law by local governments that only licensed, bonded and insured fire prevention companies familiar with fire sprinkler systems perform the work. Strict laws have been enacted restricting the use of certain chemicals (think antifreeze). While the perfect time to winterize commercial fire sprinkler systems is before the thermostat drops, it’s better to do it than not.
Master Fire Mechanical will inspect the ceiling pipes to ensure there is significant insulation. Once each sprinkler valve has been turned on, we’ll inspect your system’s antifreeze levels, and at a minimum wrap heat tape on pipes that are exposed to freezing temperatures.
Winterizing Dry Fire Sprinkler Systems.
Master Fire Mechanical will turn off water source and the air compressor. The drum drips of each valve will be opened to allow water to drain into a plastic bucket. We’ll return each valve to its original position and turn the air compressor back on.
It’s important to frequently inspect the pipes during cold weather to make sure they have not frozen, leading to leaks or broken pipes.
